Welcome

For our wedding Wil and I chose the Sanderling Resort and Spa located in the town of Duck, North Carolina. The resort is spread out over a very thin land mass of the northern most part of the Outer Banks covering both the ocean and Currituck Sound. The ceremony itself will be on the beach, so choose your footwear accordingly, or go barefoot as the wedding party will be doing! We also encourage a light jacket or shawl for the ladies as it is the beach and the ocean breeze can whip out without warning, but fear not, it will still be very warm!

In the days leading up to the ceremony we encourage everyone to explore the little town of Duck, located a mile and a half to the south. We found Duck to be quite nice with something to do for all of our friends and families, be it early morning tennis, a chartered fishing trip, or what else, the beach! There's also an array of restaurants, bars, and shops! If you care to explore further visit the following website: http://www.duckncguide.com/

Following our beach wedding ceremony we will be having cocktail hour on the deck of the Sanderling's main inn, to be accompanied by a violin trio while the wedding party hangs back on the beach for pictures. After the cocktail hour and pictures we will be hosting a reception at the Soundside Pavilion located mere feet away from the beach. The Pavilion is situated on Currituck Sound equipped with a large tent overhead and a gazebo leading out to the sound. We will be enjoying a sit-down dinner followed by, what else, dancing and drinks! In January we along with the best man and matron of honor attended a tasting prepared by the Sanderling catering team and we all were floored by how delicious everything was! We're confident you will come to a similar conclusion! We are still finalizing our menu for the reception but we are positive everyone will enjoy the dinner options we come up with.

It is the Sanderling's policy to end the reception at 10:00 pm however for all you night-owls the Life-Saving Station restaurant also located on the resort, has an upstairs bar that remains open past midnight. Just make sure you can make it back to your respective rooms without driving yourself if the wedding ends up getting the best of you!

Although circumstances did not allow us to reserve a room block at the Sanderling there are plenty of other options for everyone in making travel arrangements. In addition to the Sanderling there are other hotels located in the towns surrounding Duck. The Hampton Inn is located about five miles north of the Sanderling in Corolla while the Hilton Garden Inn is located five miles south in Kitty Hawk. There is also the Holiday Inn Express, also located in Kitty Hawk approximately 10 miles south of Duck. If anyone wants to make a week of it there are tons of vacation rentals situated throughout the Outer Banks!

We recommend everyone begin looking at these options sooner rather than later as September is a popular wedding month in the Outer Banks. We also encourage everyone to try and stay within a 10 mile radius of the venue so that you don't need to drive too far. For those who are flying in, the nearest major airport is Norfolk International which is between Norfolk and Virginia Beach (approx. 90 miles north of the Sanderling). There are no major airports located in the Outer Banks so plan accordingly.
